Dr. Lin Yan from the Institute of Population Research, Peking University Participated the Seminar on Elderly Care and Legislation

       

 Dec. 22, 2008, the Seminar on Elderly Care and Legislation, sponsored by UNFPA and Help Age International, and organized by China National Committee on Ageing, was held in Beijing. Officials from UNFPA, HAI, and MOC attended the meeting and gave speeches on the opening ceremony. The purpose of this seminar is to discuss the elderly care service in china and abroad, gathering suggestions for the revision of China Elderly Law. Prof. Wu Cangping, Prof. Yaoyuan, from Renmin University, Dr. Dang Junwu, from CNCA and Dr. Lin Yan from IPR-PKU gave key note speeches on the accountability, mechanism, present situation and challenges of china elderly care, and LTC services abroad. Dr. Lin has committed herself to the study of LTC system for the elderly during her Ph. D study and post-doctoral experience, especially on the elements and mechanism of the LTC system for Chinese elderly. In this seminar, Dr. Lin systematically introduced the history, key features, challenges and reform trend of LTC system in other countries and Taiwan region, as well as her suggestion on the policy and legislation making for China’s LTC system.

        This seminar is a signal that Chinese government is starting the construction of LTC system for the elderly in China, and preparing to support and secure LTC services in legislation.
