Xin-ming SONG

Professor, Institute of Population Research, Peking University

         Xinming Song is a professor at the Institute of Population Research, Peking University. He graduated from Nantong Medical College in 1982received his Master Degree from Chinese Union Medical University in 1995 and Ph.D. from the University of Hong Kong in 1999. He worked as a postdoctor in Peking University from 1999 to 2001. In 2005, he was awarded the New Century Excellent Talent by the Ministry of Education. His research interests include healthy demography, birth defects and disability prevention, the health of the elderly and healthy aging, epidemiological transition and its implications. He has conducted and participated in more than ten national or ministerial research projects and international cooperation projects, including National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), National Natural Science Foundation Project, National Social Science Foundation Project, etc. He has been involved in the research work for developing National Population Development Strategies and National Science & Technology Development Strategies, also in drafting a few government advisory reports. Currently, working on community-based prevention of birth defects and disability, environmental, social and cultural determinants of elderly health, and identification of successful models to develop strategies for healthy aging in China.
